New Proposed Interoperability Rules: Implications for Providers, Health Plans, and Business Partner (3/26/2019)1
CMS and the ONC recently released sweeping proposed rules to support seamless and secure access, exchange, and use of electronic health information. These changes - if finalized - have significant implications for health systems, physicians, health plans, and business partners. Among other proposals, the rules further efforts to provide patients access to both their electronic medical records and health insurance claims, alter the Medicare conditions of participation to require hospitals to provide digital notifications about patients who are admitted, discharged, or transferred, and better define "data blocking" by articulating specific exceptions to section 4004 of the 21st Century Cures Act. Experts from the Center for Medical Interoperability will provide an overview of the rule and discuss what these changes mean for all participants in the healthcare value chain.
